Imports from Italy, handled end to end
Most of our importers order from the same Italian suppliers week after week: pipes and fittings from Lombardy and Veneto, ceramic tiles from around Sassuolo and Fiorano, paper in rolls and bales from around Lucca. That is why we have carriers who drive this lane regularly and know the loading hours and rules at these suppliers.
Freight within the EU needs no customs clearance. A CMR consignment note travels with the goods, and the supplier provides the invoice and delivery note as for a domestic delivery.
Each shipment has one dispatcher: they agree the loading slot with the supplier in Italy, track the truck and confirm the unloading time with you.
What we move from Italy
The same process for a single pallet and for regular weekly trucks.
Full truckload (FTL)
About half of our shipments from Italy. A 13.6 m curtainsider, mega trailer or walking-floor trailer for your goods only, straight from the supplier, with no transhipment.
Groupage
A few pallets from one or more Italian suppliers in a shared truck. You pay for the space your goods take.
Regular weekly lines
If you order from the same supplier every week, we agree a fixed loading day and a carrier who already drives that route.
Several pick-ups in one trip
Goods from two or three suppliers in the same region can be combined into one truck to Croatia.
How a shipment from Italy works
One dispatcher from enquiry to confirmed delivery.
Enquiry
Supplier address in Italy, delivery address, goods, pallet count or weight and the date the goods are ready.
Quote
The dispatcher checks available carriers on the lane and sends price, vehicle type and timing.
Loading in Italy
We agree the slot directly with the supplier and send the truck and driver details in advance, so loading runs without waiting.
Unloading in Croatia
We confirm the arrival time and send you the signed CMR as proof of delivery.
Where we load most often
Loading towns with the most of our shipments in the last 12 months. The destination is mostly Zagreb and its surroundings; we also deliver to the rest of Croatia.
Typical time from loading to unloading is 1–2 days. Loading on a Friday usually means unloading on Monday. Your quote states the exact timing.
- Fara Vicentino (Veneto) → Zagreb
- Cazzago San Martino (Lombardy) → Croatia
- Sassuolo, Fiorano and Casalgrande (Emilia-Romagna) → Zagreb
- Capannori and Villa Basilica (Tuscany) → Zagreb
- Odolo and Bolgare (Lombardy) → Croatia
- Marghera, Venice (Veneto) → Zagreb
What affects the price of freight from Italy
We do not publish a price list, because the price depends on the shipment. These are the main factors:
- Loading region
- Northern Italy (Friuli, Veneto, Lombardy) is closer and has more carriers on the lane than Tuscany or central Italy.
- Full truck or groupage
- A whole truck or only the space your goods take. For a few pallets, groupage is usually cheaper.
- Tolls
- Italian and Slovenian tolls are part of the price and depend on the route and vehicle class.
- Timing
- A fixed unloading slot or loading on a Friday afternoon narrows the choice of carriers.
Documents
For freight within the EU, this is all you need:
CMR consignment note
Issued at loading in Italy. The copy signed at unloading is the proof of delivery.
Supplier invoice and delivery note
Provided by the Italian supplier. No customs declaration is needed, as both countries are in the EU.
Liability for the goods
Under the CMR Convention, carrier liability is limited to 8.33 SDR per kilogram of gross weight. For higher-value goods we recommend additional cargo insurance.
